EnPot and SAMI Sign Landmark Cooperation Agreement

28 June 2023

Shenyang Aluminum and Magnesium Engineering and Research Institute Co. Ltd. (SAMI) and New Zealand based EnPot Ltd inked an Intention to Cooperate Agreement in Beijing in an official ceremony with New Zealand’s Prime Minister Chris Hipkins in Beijing today.

The agreement signals the companies’ joint desire to seek opportunity for application of EnPot’s patented deep modulation technology on aluminium smelters featuring SAMI’s renowned patented pot technology.

Ms Karyna Young, EnPot CEO, said EnPot technology enables smelters to flex their energy use up or down by 30 per cent, to take advantage of more renewable electricity. “This is a priority for aluminium smelters that are emissions intensive when their power supply is generated from fossil fuels.

“SAMI is one of the world’s leading aluminium reduction technology providers, with more than 80 per cent market share in China. This makes them the perfect partner for EnPot in this important market,” Karyna said.

SAMI’s Deputy President Mr. Liu Yi said, “SAMI has always been committed to the development of China's aluminium industry, and hope that through this Agreement, we are looking forward to rely on specific projects to make a trial on reducing emissions from pots in China.”

EnPot technology, coupled with SAMI’s leading aluminium reduction technology and footprint, may have a significant impact on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by supporting energy grids to adopt more green energy, faster.
